Key Applications
- Non-destruction blast cleaning of molds and precision tooling
- Deflashing of thermoset plastic and composite moldings
- Surface preparation for bonding, coating, adhesion
The first automatic blast systems offered by Guyson Corporation were designed for deflashing of thermoset plastic moldings in the burgeoning plastics industry of the time and for removal of flash from encapsulated semiconductor components and integrated circuit packages. Many of the machine sold by Guyson in those industries in the 1970s and ’80s are still in production use today, and we continue to offer a greatly expanded line-up of automated deflashing systems to producers of molded plastic and composite components.
During those early years, we gained valuable experience with non-abrasive and semi-abrasive plastic blast media that gave Guyson a head start in exploiting the properties of the new engineered blasting materials in many other industries and applications where sensitive substrates must be protected and where impact finishing work can be done very efficiently without any modification whatsoever of component surface texture and appearance.
During the 1980s Guyson developed and introduced new media and specially adapted automatic blast machines for nondestructive cleaning of molds used in the glass container industry, in the production of molded rubber goods and in the tire industry. The impact on cleaning cycle times, energy and material costs and productivity was dramatic. Guyson has continued our activity in these industries, introducing new and more versatile cleaning systems to meet their changing requirements.
In these applications, Guyson gained expertise in the milder and less abrasive side of blasting technology that we have since applied to the cleaning of precision molds and dies in a number of other industries where our fast and gentle blast cleaning processes are used to prevent metal removal or dimensional change.
