Reinventing Surface Prep with the Four-Spindle RXS-400 Robotic Blasting System

Our team recently wrapped up another RXS-400 Indexing Airblast System—this one a custom four-spindle version with fully automated robotic pick-and-place handling. Designed for high-volume surface prep, it delivers consistent results, keeps production moving, and cuts down on operator involvement.

Automated Surface Prep for High-Volume Components

The four-spindle RXS-400 is set up to process large batches of components with minimal handling. A six-axis robot loads parts from a tray onto rotating spindles using a dual gripper system that maximizes efficiency. Each spindle then indexes into the blast cabinet, where multiple fixed or traversing blast guns deliver a fast, precise blast cycle while the spindle rotates the component under the blast stream.

After blasting, the spindle moves through an air wash station to clear away remaining media, then returns to the load/unload station. From there, the robot removes the finished part, places it into the unload tray, and immediately loads the next part from the second gripper—keeping production moving seamlessly.

Optimized Media & Throughput

When paired with Guyson Media, this system becomes an even stronger solution. It can run any blast media compatible with Guyson’s 900 gun, giving manufacturers broad flexibility. Depending on the application and finish requirements, the system can process up to several hundred parts per hour, ensuring fast cycle times while maintaining consistent results.

Built-In Technology and Custom Options

Several advanced features are built into this system, including:

  • Robotic automation for fully unattended operation
  • Media flow sensors
  • Spindle speed sensors for precision preparation
  • Part detection sensors for process accuracy

Custom-engineered part trays make the four-spindle RXS-400 adaptable to a wide range of components. Its compact design makes it ideal for facilities with limited floor space, while the modular design allows fast, accurate installation with minimal site setup. Additionally, the system can be switched to safe manual operation when one-off parts need blasting, providing flexibility for production runs and unique jobs.

Safe and Efficient by Design

Operator safety and ease of use are core to the RXS-400. All access doors are interlocked, and the robot is housed in its own handling cell, separate from personnel. Large racking load/unload tables simplify staging, and once a batch is set up, the system can run continuously without operator input—delivering a truly hands-free blasting process.

Key Takeaway

The four-spindle RXS-400 Indexing Airblast System with robotic handling is a high-efficiency, compact solution for companies processing large quantities of small parts. With its modular design, safety features, fast cycle times, and reliable results, it provides manufacturers the speed, flexibility, and efficiency they need to stay competitive.
